Determination Depends on You
Determination Depends on You from Seven Steps to Inner Power Book Page 31 by Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim
“Here’s the unfortunate thing about determination: it works only when you want it to. Let’s say you paid a tailor $1,000 in advance to produce evening clothes to wear to a special event. This event will never happen again, and the clothes are only for this evening. Will you go to pick up your new clothes if it’s raining? Yes. Will you go if you are angry over a late start because your stew boiled over? Yes. Will you continue even if the freeway traffic is totally stopped and you have to sit for two hours? Yes. What will you do when you arrive at the tailor’s just after he hung the closed sign? You’ll bang on the door until he lets you in.
But, when you’re looking for a new job, where does all this determination go after a few rejections? Where does it go when, after more failures than you expected, you give into fear and dejection? Are your new clothes really so much more deserving of your determination than you are?”
I find myself relating to the example given above with every project that I have been working on these days. It is important that we know our priorities. It is true that determination depends on what we value because at the end of the day the choices are: to do whatever it takes to make it happen or settle with some type of excuse. Great Grandmaster Tae Yun Kim teaches us that having determination is a key to our success!
